How do you deal with the Glasgow Housing Association?

My hubby and I have a 10 month old son. All three of us live in a studio flat, which, as you can imagine, is extremely cramped. We found out recently that we are unexpectedly expecting again. This has put us in a bit of a rush to find a bigger flat. Problem is that we are unable to rent privately a flat large enough for a family of 4 due to our financial situation. So, we turned to our local HAs for help. We have pending applications with a few HAs and are turning in other applications this week for other areas. Problem is, the ones we have applied to couldn’t care less about our situation, and pretty much said we’ve got almost no chance of ever getting a place, even when we mentioned the pregnancy situation and are prepared to turn in supporting evidence to that effect. We’re hard-working family people who need a hand – what can I do to try and expedite our claim or get them to see the severity of our situation? We’re not looking for handouts – we just genuinely need help.
Any advece would be greatly appreciated, especially from those who have been in a similar situation.

Thank you very much guys.
Note: Second child was not planned!

Not sure in Scotland but in England the housing don’t have to offer you anything until the child is over 1 years old as technically they can sleep in the same bedroom as their parents.

When the council houses became housing associations in England, local councillors were kept on the housing board to make sure that they gave houses to people who really need them. So I would make an appointment with your local councillor and see it that helps.

My son was living with his girlfriends parents and they had a baby and our large local housing association (used to be the council) were not interested in giving them and their baby a house. They were lucky and got a house of another very small housing association who were a lot more sympathetic to their plight.

I hope you manage to get something soon.

I hope this helps. :-)

If I find anything else out I will come back and edit. I have family in Glasgow so will ring them and see if they have any ideas.

I am looking to rent a flat or house in Glasgow for no more than 2 months, however, hotels and serviced apartments are too expensive. Do you know anyone that would do a short term let?

have a look on www.gumtree.com go to the glasgow page and the flats offered. they may not be advertised as short term lease but if the number of people who viewed the add is over 300 then the add has been on for a long time and they would take anything they can get

I will be moving to Glasgow on a temporary work contract and am looking to find a flat to rent in and around University of Strathclyde. I would really like the names of streets that are considered safe near there. Can anyone help? I’ve searched other questions but haven’t found many street NAMES.
Any suggestions? Much appreciated!
Aimee from Canada!
Thanks for my first answer! I’m looking for closer to the John Anderson campus of University of Strathclyde. Any streets there that are considered ok?

Born in Glasgow, and have lived in US for 17 years, family all live in West End of city, this is definately the safest area. clean plenty of rental properties and near everything you will need. It is also home to Glasgow Uni, the areas are Hillhead, Great Western Road, Byres rd ,Otago st ,park rd, west end park st and west princes st, these are all nice and have plenty of student apts also, there is easy access to buses, and the subway. plenty of shops and a good social scene in byres rd, you will love it. I am jealous………………..

There is a lot of interest in the property and I am keen to make a quick purchase. I do not intend to live in this property for more than a year and wish to rent it out after this.
Do you know of anyone that would work to find me a property and advise on bidding?

go to this web site and enter the post code and you will see what similar properties in that area have sold for recently, this will give you an idea of how much to bid.

I am looking to rent short term so wouldnt want to pay a high rent at the same time would need somewhere decent. I amy possibly buy my own house/flat after a year, again what would be good places for this, close to scholls and citycentre with good tansport links

The West End is a lovely area but house prices and rent are more expensive there too. Dennistoun and Shawlands are also nice areas with good transport links etc.

Where is the best places to look for to find private flats to rent in Paisley? I’m relocating there with my job and don’t want to go through a letting agent as they charge too much!!

You can buy a flat in Paisley for about £40,000.
Just rent a cheapo bedsit till you’ve bought your own.

We need the home or flat for 30 days. It has to be reasonable in price. We would like to see a Photo of it. We need it just for a place to sleep while we are taking in the sights of Scotland and other places we intend to visit. It could also be a small apartment or cabin away from the city. Any help would be appricated

Try craigslist.org they have many local resources.

Bedroom for rent – Kinning Park, Glasgow. Gumtree ad: 38065770‏

Beautiful, park view kingsize triple room in lovely spacious flat 5 mins from city centre. Avail towards end May. Own Sky+ recorder in room, free wi-fi and phone calls (international/local), parking. Would suit a friendly, clean and tidy, female non-smoker. Its important we have a family atmosphere living with 2 other girls. We want someone who wants to make friends and feel like this is her home.

Our flat is really nice – main bathroom just refurbished: a little bit of luxury. Brand new kitchen to be installed soon to include underfloor heating and induction cooking.

Deposit is £350 (can be paid over a few weeks if necessary). Bills are around £95.

Happy to answer any questions you might have. I’ll do my best to respond to you quickly, but I’m away until 9 May, with only limited email access, so might have to get back to you on my return.

Thanks.
